March 22, 2012

I've been thinking a lot about my Opa the last few days.  I miss him.  I didn't get to see him before he passed away last summer.  I think the last time I saw him was around Christmas.  We were going to go see him the day he died but we didn't make it in time.  That was a Sunday.  That day in church, we sung the song, "In Christ Alone", and it made me cry.  I think we also sang that song at his funeral and I listened to the song today.  It made me cry, not only because it reminds me of Opa but because of the words in the song.  They just made me think.

What have we been up to since St. Patricks Day?  Unfortunately not much that I can remember.  Last night we were invited over to enjoy dinner with our friends.  We had homemade rolls with rice, crab, cucumber and a few other ingredients.  I'm not usually a fan of sushi styled food but this was so good.  Tyler didn't share my enthusiasm so he came home hungry.  After dinner, our friend Jessica came over and we played some cards.  Ryan started to get fussy so Tyler put him in the sleeper hold which sounds bad.  Let me explain what that is if you are concerned - We were taught at the hospital to burp him by leaning him over and supporting his head with our hand.  He just leans against our hands and we tap his back.  Ryan always falls asleep like this and I call it the sleeper hold.  We also call him a muppet when he sits like that because Tyler is often able to just walk around with Ryan on his hands.  But of course he is much cuter then a muppet.  Any way, Tyler calmed him down by holding him in the sleeper hold and he fell asleep.  Jessica left and I was getting ready to feed Ryan before bed.  The problem was that Ryan fell into a deep sleep and couldn't be woken.  It was funny to see Tyler flying him around on his hands like a small airplane.  He didn't wake up so we put him to bed and climbed into bed as well.

It wasn't 10 minutes later that Ryan realized he was in fact hungry and started crying.  We went back into the living room where Ryan fed and Tyler kept me company.

Our day so far has been pretty great.  Ryan woke me up a few times last night but he's getting good at letting me sleep for a long chunk of time to start the night off.  He woke up for good at around 6:30.  Tyler took him into the living room until I got out of bed at around 7:30.  We enjoyed a bit of time together before Tyler was off to work.  Tyler said that Ryan was giving him so many smiles before I got out of bed.  I like that they get some time just the 2 of them to bond.  I also like the bit of sleep I get.

Tyler left for work and I fed Ryan.  He fell back asleep and slept for a long time.  I was able to watch an episode of a new show Eva told me about.  It shocked me that he was still asleep at 10.  The sun was shining and I needed to be outside to enjoy the fact that it wasn't raining.  I packed Ryan up and headed out around town.  Ryan fell back to sleep.  I headed to the hospital and we both got kisses from Tyler.

Tyler came home for lunch and we talked about how his day was going up to that point.  Ryan woke up to play with Dad.  Tyler went back to work and I play with Ryan for a while.  He got hungry so I fed him and he once again fell asleep.

And here I sit, with my sweet son in my arm.  I'm typing with one hand which is making my words per minute go down significantly but it's okay.  I'm not doing anything else but watching Ry sleep.  He's still super cute if you were wondering.

Our evening isn't going to be thrilling but it will be spent together and that's all that matters.  Once Tyler gets home, we are heading to the store for the rest of our birthday party supplies.  We are having Kendra and Jessica over for cards and all of Tylers favorite snack food - salt and vinegar chips, meat, cheese and crackers (if he had his way, there would only be meat) and I'm serving some veggies and cake.  It will be a low key party but that's Tyler for you.

I'm excited for Tyler to get home from work.  I think our walk to the store will turn into a longer walk around town so we can enjoy outside.  On my earlier walk, I was once again amazed that we live where we do.  Snow capped mountains in the distance with sparkling water surrounding us.  It's truly a beautiful place we get to live in and I appreciate it more and more as we grow closer to the day we come back to the flat lands.
