Well, today was an interesting day. I should start yesterday. I got a call from the RCMP asking if I would be interested in a full time position at the detachment. I said yes but that I just accepted a part time position. They asked me if I could meet with them so they can explain further the desperate situation they were in. I agreed.
And I met with them. And it was a good meeting. They explain that they needed someone quick and that I was the only person in town with the experience that they required. They made a very convincing argument for why I should seriously consider taking this job. Basically the situation is this: The woman I am replacing is having issues and might be leaving for good. If she does, and it's looking like she will, I would permanently get the job. If she stays, I would be kept on hand as the casual worker, filling in for vacation. The staff also were looking into all the policies and stuff, and it turns out they can employ me for 4.5 months as full time just because I fall under a certain category of this policy.
The best part about this whole thing is that I get more experience. It's the experience that got me this offer and I want more. Tyler and I have been talking about our futures and it's kind of a good thing to get more experience in the realm of the RCMP world. It means that where ever Tyler takes us next, I can get a job. Also, being a federal employee has it's perks. And I like perks.
This detachment has some really great people in it. It seems to be a very positive place to work and I am really looking forward to working there. I start this Monday and I'm so excited!
Any way, today started as every other has. I woke up early and ate my breakfast cereal. At this point, I wasn't sure how the day would turn out yet. I had written a resignation letter and was thinking about this whole RCMP thing. What to do, what to do?? I walked to work in the crisp cool morning air. It was nice and refreshing.
I got to work before everyone else, as usual. The day was a hectic mess. We had to clean the entire building to get ready for the kids on Monday. We wiped down everything from toys to chairs to windows. I was in charge of bleaching and rinsing all the toys. It wasn't the greatest job, but it made the day go by. I was only thinking of the RCMP though, so it's good that job wasn't too complicated.
At 10:30, we were told that we had to take part in a healthy snack that was taking place at the Health Center. It was pretty good. There was bacon, cookies, crackers, cheese, and fruit. It was a good little break in my very short day.
It was back to work soon after and back to bleach water and dirty toys. I was glad when the day was over. I came home to further consider what I should do. I basically knew what I really wanted to do, but I still put more thought into it. Tyler came home for lunch and then I went to the RCMP. It was pretty cool.
I spent all afternoon there. I phoned my boss and told her the situation. She was really cool about it because she knew what my resume looked like. I was shown around the detachment, learning a few things. I'm pretty excited to start that job. I know kind of what the job entails, so I'm not so nervous.
It's been a very interesting few days.
Enjoy the weekend.
