Jarrett Family in Bella Bella

Momma J here...
along with Terral and Kyla.

Tyler just handed me the computer so that we could blog tonight and talk about our week here with them.

We flew in on Sunday from Port Hardy. The airport reminded us of the airport on the TV show "Wings". Some of you would remember this show. The same person gave us our boarding pass, checked our bags, took our barding pass at the door and was the same person who greeted the passengers who were disembarking the plane!
We arrived here around noon. Tyler and Sonja picked us up at the airport and took us to their place. After they had put away the things that we brought out with us and fed us some lunch we went for a walk around the town. While out we were on the lookout for eagles. We did find a few and thus began our daily watch for the eagles. They were still something cool to us prairie people even though everyone out here sees them daily.

During this week we have seen cruise ships, barges, ferries, fishing boats, float planes and kayaks go by. There is a lot of activity around here every day, which surprised us. We also have seen a big black bear at the town dump, as well as many eagles, ravens and crows.

We thought for awhile that Terral and Kyla would be able to take the float plane with the local doctor to Klemtu, but that didn't work out. However we did take the sea-bus across the channel and visited the village of Shearwater. Not a whole lot there but an interesting diversion non the less.

One evening Tyler, Kyla, Terral and I took the kayaks out and kayaked to a distant light house. It was probably a couple miles away from Bella Bella. It was a beautiful night to be on the ocean. Unfortunately, Sonja was unable to come with us as she was called in to do a shift at the RCMP detachment.

We also walked to the ferry terminal and to the airport both of which are a couple of miles from Bella Bella. The ferry terminal is south and the airport is north. It seems that people walk a lot out here. The weather was great for being out and about. Not too cold and not too hot. We did see the sun every day but one, so we feel that we were very fortunate.

Tyler and Sonja have been very good hosts to us, too bad they had to work every day that we have been out here. We are now watching TV and will be flying out in the morning and beginning our long trek home. Thanks Ty and Sonja for such a great week and sharing your lives with us.
