How can this be the 365th blog post? How can early tomorrow morning be our one year anniversary of living out here in Bella Bella? I can't believe it at all. And I'm just starting to really like it out here too. It's taken me a little while to really fully appreciate what we have, the people, the scenery. Today really solidified my love for this place too. It's been an incredible year.
My morning started so early. Tyler got up for the bathroom around 5:30 and also woke me up. And then at 6am, my phone rang. Tyler sprang up and thought it was his on call phone, but I answered my phone. I knew what it was too. I was being asked to guard. I wasn't all awake either. I asked them to phone around and see if someone else wants to go in. It's easier to stay awake at night when I get called then waking up from a dead sleep and having to go in. He said he would phone everyone else. When I hung up the phone, I didn't really get back to sleep knowing that I was likely going to get another call. And sure enough, my annoying ring tone sounded again. So I went into work at 6:30 after getting ready for the day and collecting things to do while I guard.
I showed up for work and the member told me that he tried to call everyone he knew would be sober enough to work, and that list wasn't very long. The one nice thing about watching a drunk person is that they sleep the whole time and you don't really have to do a whole bunch for them. I was told that they might have another person for me later in the day too. So, I watched a few tv shows, I did a few cross stitches, and I had a decent morning. I also ate the lunch I brought, which was stir fry, at 8:30. It was a good breakfast. Once the person was released, I got to be outside. And it was beautiful outside.
It was hot and sunny and it was glorious. I tried to sit outside but by the time I ate something and got my stuff together, the sun had moved around the house and it wasn't as great outside. Not as hot and sunny. So, I set up a chair by the window, right by where Kitten sunbathes. It was pretty warm but I got disrupted. I got a text from Kendra saying she was going to go clean out the fire pit and collect wood for our fire tonight. I decided to join her. I went down to the beach and shoveled the fire pit and talked with Kendra and a nurse who was reading on the beach.
Tyler was out fishing in a kayak and came back when we were all out there. He didn't get many bites but I guess it was fun for him. I was supposed to go with him, but work got in the way of our fun. While we were out there, Tyler went to the spit and cast once. He then came back with a big black cod on the end of his rod. It was pretty unbelievable that it happened that fast. The nurse was pretty impressed and decided to try his hand at it as well. So he went off and came back soon after with another big fish. At this point, we had started the fire and had gotten some pretty good coals. We also found a grill in the tall grass so Tyler propped up some wood and placed the grill on the blocks. He threw the fillets on there and we watched them cook. But soon, as every one predicted, on of the blocks caught on fire and right before it fell over, Tyler managed to place another piece of wood under the grill and saved the dinner.
We also made pie irons and they were the best thing I have ever eaten. I can't believe I haven't eaten a pie in so long. I first had a wildberry pie and then a pizza pie. We introduced the pie iron to our friends and they really enjoyed them too. I totally felt like I was camping, what with the fire beside the ocean, the fire, the eagles, the pie irons and the mountains. It all came together to give me the feeling that I didn't need to wash my hands before eating, even though there was soot on them. That feeling of being grubby but since everyone is, it's okay. It was a really great night. There was a huge eagle frenzy all evening and that was super cool to see.
I came in early because I have been awake for what seems like forever. And as it turns out, I haven't gone to bed yet so coming in early was pretty silly. I gave Kitten some coneless time and now I'm blogging. I hope I don't get called again tomorrow morning. It's tough not spending the weekends with Tyler. It's fine if I work throughout the week but not on weekends.
It was a good day and I'm thinking that once I get into bed, I will be fast asleep very quickly.
