Power outage

Well, today was a day that ended very differently then how it began. Let me begin by saying I'm typing this from Tyler's phone so any spelling errors can be attributed to this tiny little keyboard.

We got up, showered and I was very surprised to find that it was not windy at all. Yesterday there was a threat of 160kph winds that were supposed to hit us but the weather this morning was actually pretty nice. I was a little disappointed because I didn't really want to go to work this morning.

The first half of the day was very calm, with very little calls and a steady flow of odds and ends for me to do. I found out today that I get to work there for at least another 2 months so that was some good news.

After lunch at around 2:30 the chaos started. Those winds hit Bella Bella so hard and so fast that it's hard to describe. When we looked at the water from our windows, the waves were being blown into a mist and the whole channel seemed foggy. A power line got blown over and trees were also threatening to come down. It kept our members very busy. It turns out that when the weather is beating you down, there is little empathy from those many callers who had "problems". I was hung up on for asking people to stay off the road. I was told by a caller not to tell them what to do. People called asking what we were going to do for those who don't have food. It turned into a real gong show of an afternoon. But it was fun. It was a nice change from what usually happens around here. I was getting real complaints I stead of lost cell phone calls. I enjoyed the madness. It was also fun when we heard a loud bang and saw pieces of roof flying by. We thought our own roof had ripped off but it was the hospital roof that was targeting us.

I got home to find Tyler standing in the dark by the window. I'm surprised our windows aren't broken. I'm sure if the wind was blowing directly at is there would be nothing left. I can't believe how insane this wind was. It has calmed down now, still a little windy and still no power. It's getting colder and colder in our house. We have candles lite for heat and light but we don't know what's for dinner now. Tyler suggested pie irons over the flames but that's a little silly.

It's probably early to bed tonight as there is nothing else to do when the weather is like this. I'm not sure there is any work for me tomorrow because when the power is out, I dot have the ability to work. Long weekend here I come!!  That would make up from missing the family day long weekend.

Tyler is studying in the last of the days light. I have claimed a room in the detachment if we get really cold and desperate but I'm hoping it doesn't get that bad.
