April 3, 2012

Ryan set a record last night.  He slept for a straight 7 hours!!!  It was amazing to get that much sleep in a row.  I’m so proud of him for being such a good boy .

Today was a pretty great day.  I got up with Ryan at around 8 and joined Tyler in the living room.  Ryan ate for a long time and the looked beautiful so I wanted to get out there as soon as I could.  Once the little man was done, I dressed him in some pretty cute clothes and packed him up in the carrier.

I headed out and got a text from Tyler.  He reminded me that there was a hearing for the pipeline today and I was interested in going.  I headed out on the street and looked up at the school and saw that there were 3 RCMP vehicles parked in front of the school.  I used my power of deduction and figured out that that’s probably where the event was to take place.  They needed extra police because … well, if you know anything about anything you know that this place is nothing to be scared of.  I asked just to make sure and sure enough, after lunch there would be a hearing in the school gym.

I walked around town for about half an hour and got back home.  Ryan was fast asleep in his carrier so I just unhooked myself from it and laid him on the bed.  He didn’t move and he was extra cute because he sprawled out.  His hands are just so small and so cute.

Tyler came home for lunch and we talked for half an hour.  Then I was off to the school.  I wasn’t too sure what to expect from the hearings but I went to support my community.  It’s funny because I wouldn’t have cared about this if I lived anywhere else.  I wouldn’t have went to something like this any other time in my life but I’m a little different now.  This place matters to me and I needed to support my community.

I walked into the school gym and sat beside another woman with a baby.  I figured it would be smart to group up with similar people in case Ryan freaked out.  I could have a bit of sympathy and know that at least that person understands.  She was a really nice woman and told me about a playgroup that meets at the hall on Thursdays.  I’m excited to go because it gets Ryan and I out of the house and I get to meet new people.  The opening ceremony started and it made me regret going.  I picked a seat close to the exit in case I needed to sneak out.  Well, the chiefs  and dancers came in banging on drums and chanting so loud that I thought Ryan might be deaf afterwards.  They walked right in front of us and it was so loud!!! But Ryan is the best baby in the world and slept through the whole thing.  I was so impressed with him.  It was cool to hear the songs and the watch the dances.  By the time the actual proceedings started, my back and butt were killing me.  I had Ryan in the carrier and I was sitting on the hard bleachers.  I ended up leaving early and going to the store to finish up our shopping list.

I got home and Ryan was awake.  He had slept for a long time during the day so I was excited to play with him.  We played on the mat, I carried him around and eventually I put him in his little seat because he was getting sick of me.  But I still got many many smiles.  And that’s what makes my job the best job in the world.

Tyler came home and I had only part of dinner started.  I am finding it tough to prepare real dinners this week so we’ve been eating very simple, thrown together meals.  Today, we had fries and I had tomato soup.  There is always popcorn to save the day. We did try something new today with our popcorn.  We put hot sauce on it and it turned out fantastic.
