As I posted yesterday, we went fishing. We got the text and left town at one. It was cloudy, but warmer than it has been the last few times we have gone out boating. We went over to Shearwater to fill up before taking off officially. We went around Denny Island to the east side and circled down a bit until we were at the desired fishing grounds. We lowered the trolling gear and away we went. We were going and suddenly we were on the fish. The side I was in charge of started vibrating, so I jumped onto the reel and started turning. Sure enough, on the middle line there was a nice coho swimming and fighting my grip. I got him on board and then it was high fives all around. It was a nice 8 pound fish.
My second fish.
I quickly checked the last hook to make sure there wasn't something on it and sure enough, there was a rock cod hooked onto it. So I unhooked him and re-set the gear. The fishing slowed down a bit and then suddenly the other side started ringing and vibrating. So up came the gear and the fish. Soon after it was my turn again. The line was ringing and up he came. This time it was a 11 pound coho. As I was putting the gear back in, my hook was still just floating on top as I was trying to undo a knot in the line, when I felt a tug on the line in my hand. To my surprise I had another fish on my hands. So I pulled it back in and brought the fish into the boat. That brought my salmon total up to 3. Through out the rest of the day we caught another 5 salmon, for a grand total of 9.
We also did some jigging for rock fish and trying for a halibut. Part of the reason for wanting rock cod was for crab bait. Once we had some we set the trap and found a shallow, flat area and set the trap.
Crab trap ready to go.
While we were waiting for it to fill we kept jigging. After about 45 minutes, we went to pull the crab trap up. Nothing was in it. So we went across the channel and dropped the pot over there. Then we trolled some more. Eventually it was time to go back and pull up the crab trap. This time we got lucky and it had 6 crabs in it.After pulling up the crabs it was time to come back home. Along the way we took a picture of our catch as well as one of the fish I caught.
The catch of the day.
The fish I pulled in.
We got back to Bella Bella about 11:30, just in time to shower and go to bed.
I woke up this morning tired from the day and late night last night. But the morning was kind of steady for a little bit. However all good things come to an end and it slowed right down after 11 until 2. Then it got a little bit busy again. Soon though it was time to come home. We were going to have some crab tonight. We didn't do anything fancy with it, we just boiled it and dipped it in garlic butter. However, just before we were ready to eat I was called into work. I always hate getting called just before supper. The crab was good, not my favorite, but still good.
The rest of the night has been relaxing. Probably going to head to bed soon, as I am kinda tired still.
