WEEKEND TIME!!

Well today was the day that we have been waiting for.  Our home made long weekend.  It was a busy day for me in the morning which was nice and made the morning go by allot quicker.  Soon enough it was lunch and only half a day more until the weekend.  The afternoon wasn't so busy, but it still went by pretty quickly which was nice.

I came home from work and played a little bit of NHL 2K11.  When Sonja came home I made some supper.  We had Hamburger Helper spicy enchilada.  It was a nice easy meal, with no leftovers which was part of the plan.  Now our fridge is mostly emptied.  After supper it was time to clean up before our trip.  Sonja started with the dishes and I vacuumed, took out the recycling, folded some clothes and started a fresh load of laundry so we don't need to do it when we get home on Sunday.

After I was all done I helped Sonja finish up the dishes.  We finished them up and then it was time for me to cut my hair.  Gotta look good if I'm gonna be on TV.  We are hoping to be on Hockey Night in Canada on Saturday.  I think it might happen as we will be the visitors supporters and there won't be too many of us.

No plans for the rest of the night.  Fold the clothes that are drying and pack for our weekend.  Maybe we will watch a movie before going to bed.

Finally recovered...

Well, I believe that today I'm finally recovered from my Sunday morning guard shift.  I really didn't get a good sleep and that destroyed the first few days of this week for me.  But today was different.

Yesterday, I had a meeting with my boss and co-worker and we discussed what I can take responsibility for.  They gave me a lot more work to do, and that's me so happy.  I no longer have to sit there bored to tears.  I'm pretty excited to have this increased work load because it shows that my boss knows I can handle it.  It's a really nice feeling being trusts like that.  My only problem is that I'm not trained at all and that scares me.  I don't like that they are counting on me to do all this work and yet, I really have no idea what I'm doing past what my co-worker tells me.  I'm sure it's not too hard...  we will see how I do next week.

But today, was a pretty awesome day.  I was pretty busy all day long.  I wasn't doing any real significant work, just moving files, making new files...  little things that no one does because everyone is too busy to be doing it.  Those are the types of jobs I'm in charge of.  It passes the time for me, which is all I care about.  I can switch files around all day long as long as I'm getting through the day.

I worked out after work today, which felt pretty good.  I came home to make pancakes for supper.  We had to eat them at some point this week before we go and it's been to tough getting motivated to make a real supper all week, we had leftover pancakes.  Tyler's turned out nice and cooked but mine were a sad mass.  They kind of cooked but mostly they stayed slimy on the inside.  I had a kiwi to chase it down with.

After din din, I convinced Tyler to play DDR with me.  It's one of my favorite games in the world to play.  After a little complaining on Tyler's end, I got him set up on his mat and we started playing.  After a little while, Tyler got a feel for it and he started doing really good.  We played for about 45 minutes.  Now Tyler is playing his NHL game and I'm typing this out.

One more day of work for us.  I am so excited for this weekend, getting off the island and being in a bigger place.  It will probably drive me crazy after a while, seeing how I'm use to the slow quiet life of Bella Bella.  But it will be awesome to buy new clothes and see the Oilers in person.  I was being mocked at work today for being an Oilers fan.  They told me that they should take my fingerprints so that if something happens to us at the arena, they will be able to tell who I am...  they were joking but it went on for about 10 minutes of them saying we are going to get made fun of and have things thrown at us.  I hope not!

Spring showers

Today I woke up with the bed to myself again.  Apparently I fell asleep before Sonja and was keeping her awake, so she went to sleep on the cat's bed.  Turns out the cat was more annoying than me.  This was after we went to bed early so Sonja could try catching up on her lost sleep from the weekend.

The morning was more of the same as it has been the last while.  Get up, shower and eat breakfast.  It was raining this morning, so that was a bit of a difference from the sun we got last week.  We saw three otters swimming in the bay while we were eating breakfast.  I tried to get a picture through the window, but had the flash on so I didn't get anything good.

I went into work and wasn't too busy most of the day.  However I was too busy to get too much studying done.  That means that I had to do some tonight after work.  I have an assignment due on Saturday, which means it's actually due on Thursday since we won't be around for me to fax it in on the weekend.

After work I went to pay the internet bill and came home to start making supper.  We forgot to take chicken    out to thaw so I took some and defrosted it in the microwave.  We had chili chicken and pasta.  It was simple, quick and good.  After supper I started to study right away so I would be done in time to watch the Oilers game.

The game has been pretty slow.  I hope they get all of their crappy hockey between now and Saturday so we can watch a win that night.  It started out with the Oilers getting out shot in the first and kinda playing better in the second, but they are down 2-0 with the last minute and a half in the third.

We don't have any plans for the rest of the night.  Finish the game and eventually go to bed.

Fuzzy vision

For most of the day, I couldn't see or walk straight.  No, it wasn't because we partied a little too hard for Tyler's birthday but because I am just so tired.  I don't even remember the last time I was this tired and I'm not a huge fan of it.

I wasn't tired this morning though, but I didn't spring out of bed either.  I groaned as I was welcomed to the new day by the alarm clock.  Morning came too early.  I hoped a shower would help me to wake up and it did, a little.  A short walk to the office sent a refreshing breeze across my face and I thought that it was going to be a good day.

Work was my nemesis and I feel as though I've been beaten all day by it.  It was hard to keep my eyes open and focus on anything.  And it wasn't even busy today.  Boredom and tiredness teamed up as an unstoppable force, willing me to slump over at my desk and take one long cat nap.  My head was heavy and my eyes probably were glazed over.  I warned my boss that if it looked like I was dragging my feet all day, it was because I was up against a powerful enemy and I was losing.

I did have a few tricks up my sleeve on how to defeat this beast.  I stood up most of the day, trying to keep the blood flowing and the brain sharp.  I'm thinking now that standing probably took more energy then just sitting there.  Amy suggested butt clenches and push ups.  I was thinking of drinking something with a high sugar content to give me a jolt but that thought came at a time when the lunch room was occupied by some sort of police interview.  And when the brain was as slow as mine was today, thoughts don't reoccur with the same luster and I ended up drinking a lot of water.

It took all my power to keep my head from flopping over and soon, I defeated the monster and was able to come home, only to face another battle.  All I wanted to do was sleep.  I even got into my pj's and got under the covers.  Tyler said that I'm not allowed to keep him awake when I can't sleep later if I take a nap now.  I contemplated taking a nap, knowing full well the consequences wouldn't be pretty.  I got out of bed and Tyler started supper.

It was chicken curry.  And I had only taken out a few small pieces of chicken at lunch time to thaw out, so supper was a little sparse.  Whenever we make this for dinner, Tyler teases me about the time I mixed up the recipe and added chili powder instead of curry powder.  It makes me smile.

I'm sending this blog away early because I'm afraid that if I wait any longer, sleep will get the better of me and you wouldn't have a blog to read this evening.

It's a short week for us and I'm so excited to be heading off this island this weekend.  Even one weekend away will recharge my batteries and I can make it till summer, when we plan on leaving again.

Our plans for this evening include not running into walls and furniture (typical signs of sleep deprivation), and going to bed early (to get a leg up on tomorrow's monster).  Tyler is studying right now and Kitty is sleeping on the back of the couch.

It's been a day.  I have battle scars and I can't see straight.  But at least I'm home with my husband and I can surrender to sleep any minute...

Busy Afternoon

Last night I had the bed all to myself.  Normally when Sonja isn't there it takes me a while to get to sleep.  Last night I was lucky and really tired so I fell asleep really quickly.  I was right asleep from midnight when Sonja went into work until after 6 when I needed to get up to go to the bathroom.  The cat even came in during that time and I didn't even hear her.  I didn't really get fully back to sleep after the bathroom.  At 8 Sonja came home and I stayed in bed until she was fully asleep.  I got out of bed at twenty after 8 and studied.

I studied until Sonja wanted me to wake her up.  She didn't want to sleep all day so she'll be able to sleep tonight.  I woke her up just before noon, as she was supposed to call her friend at 12.  I went to the store then in an attempt to get the missing cream cheese.  There was none out yet so I came home dejected and was about to start doing our mountain of dishes when my work phone rang.  So I went off to work.

I was there for about an hour and then came back home.  We started the dishes and finished them all up.  While we were doing them we noticed a huge eagle fest at the end of the spit.  There we probably 50 eagles eating something and hovering and circling above.  We watched them and threw some leftover fish out in an attempt to lure them closer for some pictures.  But what they were eating was apparently more interesting.

We finished up the dishes and tried the store again.  This time we were successful and finally got the cream cheese.  We came home and Sonja started to make my birthday cake.  I was called into work again.  So I went and did what I needed to do.

I came home to find Sonja putting the finishing touches on the cheese cake.  It look like the best birthday cake ever.  We put it in the fridge to chill and it was time to relax for a bit.  But then we realized that it was going to be supper time soon.  So I started to make some schwarties casserole and got it in the oven. I had just sat down, when again my work phone rang.  So again it was off to work for me.

I came home at long last and ate my supper and was finally able to enjoy my birthday cake.  It was super tasty and well worth the wait.

All together today I was called into work 4 times from 12 till 7.  That is a record for call backs in one day for me.  It was busy but made up for not getting called yesterday and the whole last week I was on call.

Tonight is going to be a good sleep for me.

Birthday Boy!!

Happy birthday to the love of my life!!  Today, Tyler turned 23 years old.  I’m glad we are the same again.  Tyler has been teasing me since I turned 23 because I was older then him for that month and a half.  What a turkey!  But I love that turkey and today we celebrated  by doing all the things Tyler loves doing.
We started by trying to sleep in.  We did the best we could but I know we were both awake before 8.  We laid there until about 9 when we finally had enough.
Tyler requested special pancakes for breakfast.  Special pancakes are regular pancakes with chocolate chips in them.  I washed the fry pan and started mixing the batter.  I had all the dry ingredients ready to go when Tyler mentioned, “Hey, don’t you need milk for that?”  I was sad that I didn’t even think about that.  Tyler quickly threw together our food menu and we headed out to the store.
We got there and proceeded to put our food into the cart.  I’m pretty sure we bought more stuff then what was on our list too.  Since it’s Tyler birthday, he got whatever he wanted, which includes a hockey magazine that highlighted the Oilers, and he also wanted some M&M’s.  And that will be the last time we buy those because they were pretty expensive for being a little bag of tasty candy.  We also bought 10 bags of bread in a box for pretty cheap.  It was another exciting trip to the grocery store.
We got home and I finished making the special birthday pancakes for my special birthday husband.  They turned out really awesome.  Usually my pancakes are runny and really thin, like dollar pancakes but today’s batch was just perfect.  The perfect amount of lumps made the perfect tasting pancakes.
I have been a little disappointed in myself since last night.  I had a big surprise for Tyler for his birthday.  He didn’t know it, but I had emailed his mom to get his most favorite cake recipe at the beginning of the week.  I didn’t want to tell him about it because surprises are so much better then knowing what your cake is going to be.  Any way, his favorite cake is something his mom is famous for making - strawberry cheese cake.  It’s so so oh so good.  On Tuesday after work, I went to the store to get all the ingredients for this tasty cake.  And here is the embarrassing part - I forgot to buy cream cheese.  For the strawberry cheese cake recipe, I forgot the ingredient that makes it a cheese cake.  It’s just so silly to forget that.  I told Tyler about the surprise last night and that’s when I realized I didn’t have it all.  It would have been fine if the store was restocked today, but it wasn’t.... So, poor Tyler, didn’t even get a birthday cake on his birthday.  And the store doesn’t open until noon tomorrow so it will be a little while before I can make it for him.
I just felt like the worst wife ever.  But Tyler made me feel better by teasing me about it...  like I say, he’s a turkey :)
This afternoon was spent doing all the things Tyler loves doing.  He read his hockey magazine so I decided to play some DDR.  I love that game.  And I love Tyler, so I let him do his thing.
Tyler played his new hockey game on the wii that he got from his parents.  And he just loves that game.  That’s what he did pretty much all day.  I did a bit of cross stitching.  It was a really good day.  I made sure Tyler didn’t do anything he didn’t want to do because you should only do things you want to do on your birthday.
The weather was alright today.  It wasn’t super warm outside but it wasn’t freezing.  There was a really awesome rainbow outside our place.  We actually saw the end of it because it went right into the ocean outside our house.  It was a pretty spectacular rainbow too, with all the colors and then some.
And our evening has been really good too.  We are watching the Oiler game right now and it’s been a good game.  Tyler intends on playing more hockey after the real game is over.
My night doesn’t end soon at all.  I was called in to guard tonight.  I was asked to be the guard supervisor as the current one is moving out of the province.  I thought it would just be filling out a bit of paper work but nope, I have to cover when no one else wants to guard.  And it kind of sucks because I have a full time job and a lot of other guards don’t.  It doesn’t make much sense how every one of the other 12 people who could guard, don’t.  I can’t even say no.  I’m already regretting saying yes to that.  It’s going to be a very long night for me.
I just got off the phone with my mom.  It’s always great to talk with family.  Tyler knows all about that today.  He’s been getting birthday wishes all day from friends and family.
It’s been a good day, minus the Oiler blowing a lead and now playing in OT.  Oh well, it’s not the end of the world.
Happy birthday Tyler.  I love you so much.  It’s been a great day and I hope to have another fantastic year with you.

Slowed down

Today started with the sun shining and the temperature rising.  I went off to work to finish off the week.  It was finally Friday, the well deserved end of the week.

I went to work and it was a much slower day than the last couple days had been.  I wasn't running around busy at all today.  I was able to get my coffee breaks in, it had slowed down that much.  The last couple days have been too busy to get a real coffee break in.  Or the break room was busy and I wasn't able to go there.

Sonja had another relaxing day.  She got to go to Klemtu with two of the officers.  They took the boat up and spent the tire day there.  She didn't get home until almost seven.  I had supper ready when she walked through the door.  We had classy chicken and it was good.  It was a late meal but was worth the wait.

After supper we went for a walk around the town until the sun went down.  It was a nice walk around.  We just got back and now I am blogging.

No plans for the rest of the night.  Probably go to bed early because Sonja is tired.
