Wednesday, Nov. 9, 2011

I'm blogging now because it's been stormy all day and I'm not sure how much longer our internet will be working.  I'm just hoping to get to the end of this blog before it cuts out.

Well, last night I headed to bed at around 9:30 and read "What to expect when you're expecting".  It's interesting to read all this stuff about what's going to happen when the water breaks and the fun stuff that follows that but that information never changes.  I've read it a hundred times in a hundred different books, websites, pictures and even video, and I'm pretty sure it's not going to change.  I am more interested in reading about actually taking care of this little munchkin.  That is what peaks my curiosity.  I have taken care of babies and children before so I might fair better then Tyler at first, but that is the information I seek out.  At this stage in my pregnancy, Baby J is kind of just getting bigger so to read the week by week account of what he is doing kind of bores me.  It's not boring because it's still really cool to feel it in there moving and squirming and knowing that it's an actual human life is certainly not boring.  But when the information doesn't change much, I have to find other things to read.

Tyler joined me after he played some hockey video game and after talking about our day for a bit, we both fell asleep.  It was about 10pm at this point.  Kitten was being a turkey at around 5 this morning.  Apparently Tyler could hear her jumping on and off the counter because in all her grace, she landed on the plates and made a big noise.  I didn't wake up to that but I guess she kept Tyler awake from 5 am on. I did wake up when she walked all over me and was purring up a storm.  I tried to prevent her from bugging him, but she was on a mission.  I watched as she climbed all over him and then settled on his pillow, basically making a halo above Tyler's head.  It was really funny but Tyler soon threw her off.  He wasn't having any of that.  She just wouldn't leave him alone all morning.  Once Tyler's alarm went off this morning, we were both sure she would be sleeping somewhere as she was awake all morning.  But, as soon as Tyler came out of the shower, she was talking loudly to him all morning.  She is so cute. It's really fun for me to lay in bed and listen to her just meow up a storm as Tyler ignores her.  She doesn't want or need anything but she pretends like she does.  Maybe she is gearing us up for our newest family member.  I have heard that babies sometimes just make noise and can't be quieted, so this is good practice for us.

I stayed in bed for a while after Tyler left for work.  I find that on days where the weather sucks I just don't feel like getting out of bed and I feel more tired the whole day.  Probably the lack of the sun drug, vitamin D.  I did eventually get up and start my day.  I made my granola mixture and watched out for the deck cats.  They weren't there and I knew they wouldn't be all day because of the rain.  I played on the computer for a short time, did the dishes and started cross stitching.  I got hungry again at around 12 which usually doesn't happen because granola is very filling, so I made myself some lunch.  I had leftover soup and it was great once again.  That recipe is definitely going to be one that I make on days when Baby J hasn't stopped crying all day and I need something quick and easy to make for dinner.  Or it's a meal that Tyler can easily cook once he gets home from work because it only took about 20 minutes to throw together.  I might also have to make a batch and freeze it for those crazy days as well.

After Tyler left for work again after lunch, I cross stitched some more and then plugged in a movie.  It was more for background noise as I worked out for an hour or so.  After completing the workout, I sat down and cross stitched.  This project was supposed to last me until we left in December but that's not going to happen.  I anticipate it will be done within 3 weeks or less.  Good thing I have found a few other projects to do while cleaning up the linen closet.

We had salmon for dinner so I didn't have to start heating that up until closer to Tyler's return from work.  And since he is on call this week, I usually have no idea if he will be home at 5 or not.  I put the fish in the oven and started on some rice.  I wasn't really looking forward to dinner because I had salmon on the weekend and didn't feel so great later that night.  Once Tyler got home, dinner was ready and we sat down to enjoy it.

The thing I really hate about winter is that it is so dark so early.  While enjoying dinner, we always enjoy our view as well but now that it's dark at 4:30, all we see is reflection.  Dinner was really good.  The salmon had been previously smoked so it is incredibly salty which means that there is a limit to how much I can actually stomach.  I'm not a huge fan of salty food but it was a really good meal.

Right as we were finishing dinner, we heard a small meow coming from outside.  At first we couldn't see anything and I was afraid TK was down on the rocks again.  We shut off the lights and Tyler saw her on the deck, followed by Calico.  We had planned on giving the remaining salmon to them so I brought the warm dish outside.  TK gave me the longest cutest meow and it melted my heart.  I put the dish down and TK was soon sitting right in it enjoying some food.  I hope it also warmed her up a bit.

Most of our few tv channels have been knocked out so Tyler is playing his hockey video game again.  He has already studied a bit today so I'm thinking this is the plan for the rest of the night - video games and cross stitching.  I can't believe how dark it is outside right now.  I feel like it's the middle of the night, which I guess I'm going to be seeing a lot of in the next few months.

Baby J is rocking and rolling inside my belly right now.  Still the coolest thing ever!!!  I have found that I don't move at all at night and I always lay on my side.  When I wake up and look down my stomach, it's always lopsided.  It's so funny.  I can also feel Baby a lot better then because it's not hiding deep inside my stomach.

I don't have to much to say today.  It was a very uneventful day all around.  I woke up and went into work as usual.  Sonja stayed in bed this time instead of following me when I got up.  I left for work at my usual time of 8:45 and found that there wasn't too much going on.  It was however kind of steady in the morning.  But by the time lunch cam around it was just another day.

I came home and had a sandwich with Sonja and found out that she had found the tiny kitten again and fed it.  Unfortunately the day just kind of seemed to drag by.  I did a few things in the lab to clean up a bit and wait for the day to end.

I came home and found that Sonja had supper all ready to go and had found the hockey online and it was playing.  We were able to watch two periods before the internet stopped working on us.  It was enough because Edmonton was winning 1-0.  They ended up winning 3-1 even though we weren't able to watch the end. Supper was really good.  It was a mexican taco type soup which we both enjoyed and had seconds of.

Sorry for the boring blog entry but it was a really uninspiring day for me today.

Last night, Kendra was over and she helped put words to something I've been thinking but haven't been able to fully express.  We were talking about how we can't believe it's already November and that maybe we all feel that way because we never really got a summer out here.  Kendra mentioned that it still feels like May because it never got hot this past summer, and now it's winter and the weather is the same as it has been all year.  It's hard to mark seasons when all it does is rain.  There is no snow, there is no sun, there is only rain and a bit less rain.  So, I can't wait to get back to a province where seasons actually mean a difference in weather.  I can't wait for snow.  I can't wait for those clear chilly days where it's incredibly cold but there is also blue sky.  Those are such great days and I haven't experienced them since we moved out here.

This morning it was pouring so hard that I thought the day was ruined.  I got out bed after Tyler was out of the shower.  He told me to go back to bed but I knew I wouldn't be able to get back to sleep.  I mixed up my granola and put it in the fridge.  I always melt some peanut butter and then mixed in the granola because it tastes so so good.  But, I don't like it when my milk gets warm because of the heated peanut butter so I put it in the fridge for about 10 minutes while I read my devotions.

Tyler left for work and I started on my daily chores.  I did the few dishes and then headed out to the store for the last few items on our list.  I thought I was outsmarting the rest of the town because usually people aren't awake that early.  But when I got there, it was pretty busy.  I only had 3 things but I had to wait in line for about 10 minutes because there was only one till open.

I got back home and worked on my cross stitch and waited for Tyler to get home for lunch.  He was about half an hour late so I had already eaten a little something.  He came and left again an hour later and I was on my own yet again.

I played DDR which kind of makes me upset because it's on super easy and it doesn't feel like it's doing anything.  I do it to keep moving and to keep my hips limber and it works, even though I still hurt most of the time.

I spent the afternoon cross stitching and playing with Kitty.  I played with Baby J too when he was awake and kicking.  Kitten climbed up on me and took a nap.  That was about when I had to start dinner though so she didn't get a great nap.

I made spicy chicken with rice and it turned out better then ever.  The chicken was moist and the rice was tasty.  We both really enjoyed the meal.  We sat and talked for a while at the table before deciding to go for a walk.  It wasn't raining so we headed on out.  And it was chilly!  We walked around and came back home soon after because my ears started hurting.

Once back home, we watched our weekly episode of Dexter.  This season is getting a little nutty.  And now we are just sitting around.  I think bed time is creeping up on us because I'm pretty tired.

Baby J is doing great!  Kicking and moving and I think there were some hiccups in there today.  My belly is getting bigger and bigger and it's starting to get in the way.  I can still see my feet but my belly button is nearly gone altogether.  Baby is mostly growing outward and I'm getting front heavy.  It's pretty awesome and I love it.  I still wonder what this little person will look like.

It was a pretty lazy day.  We fully took advantage of the extra hour and slept until 10 this morning.  It was a really good and relaxing sleep.  I woke up pretty refreshed for once.  I didn't really have anything to get  up for, for once.  I finally got out of bed and did a little bit of morning studying.  I studied for about an hour before I decided I was done for the day.  After I was done I made some breakfast.  It was time for biscuits again, except this time they didn't turn out as great.  I am going to blame the lack of 2% milk.

After breakfast I help Sonja do the dishes and played some Wii.  After I won the hockey game I was playing we went out for groceries.  We thought we had waited long enough to get everything out and finish off our list, but we were wrong.  We still need to go back to finish up the list.

We came back and unpacked the food and relaxed for the rest of the day.  Sonja did some DDR and I played around on google maps, using the 3D trip thing.

The rest of the day was relaxing together.  Watched a bit of TV and made some popcorn because I was hungry and didn't feel like waiting for supper.  But the popcorn was super filling and I didn't feel like eating supper when it was time.  We were supposed to have salmon and rice.  I just make enough for Sonja to eat, and then finished what she couldn't finish.

We watched Date Night this afternoon to add to our relaxing day.  Kendra came over at 6 to play some cards.  I lost both games even though I was leading for a good majority of both hands, I fell apart at the end.

We are now just relaxing and will be off to bed before too long to get ready for the new week.  Only a month and a bit until we are back again for Christmas.

Saturday

I had a very creepy dream last night but it was only creepy once I woke up.  In the dream, we were hanging out with Tyler's family and Baby J was positioned in a way where it's elbow with sticking out of my belly.  Kyla wanted to feel it so I let her.  And then at one point, I peeled my rib cage back so she could actually see Baby J.  During the dream, this was something I could just do and I didn't think twice about it. Once I was awake, I was weirded out by what it looked like.  It really wasn't cool at all and I'm glad no one has the ability to peel body parts back.

We were both awake by 9:30 this morning.  It's nice that Tyler got to sleep in today because he rarely does.  His ability to sleep in has been diminished because he works so hard every day.  He had to study most of the morning so I spent what seemed like a long time washing the dishes, vacuuming, laundry, folding clothes.  When I actually looked at the clock after I was done all the chores, I actually only spent about an hour doing all these things.  I guess it helps that doing laundry and vacuuming our little apartment really aren't time consuming activities.  It was more the dishes that actually took time.  I used to really hate doing the dishes and chores but I have a new attitude about it all.  I don't look at it as me HAVING to do all these chores.  I look at it like this - Tyler works hard all week at work and then he spends a lot of time studying on the weekend so that we can live the life we have.  I can work hard to keep the house clean and things looking pretty.  I can make the weekends a little easier on Tyler by not letting him do chores.  He doesn't actually like that I do all the chores but it's not up to him.

Also, it's good for me to be moving these days.  I've been in a bit of pain the last few weeks in the hip region.  It hurts the most in the morning.  I've noticed that I really don't move at all at night so when I do move, I'm all creaky and in so much pain.  It's tough to get out of bed.  I can barely get off the couch too.  It just hurts.  So, it's good for me to keep moving and not let things seize up.

Our morning was spent doing chores and Tyler studied.  He also was able to write his test which he didn't think he would be able to do today.  It's nice because now he doesn't have to study tomorrow and he can enjoy the whole day doing whatever he wants.  Tyler played some NHL on the Wii while I sat and cross stitched.  Kitten ran around like a crazy cat and Tyler chased her.  Tyler also made up the menu and grocery list for this week.  We decided to not even try to get to the store today because we knew there wouldn't be any of the things we need yet.  We were smart and while we were at the store yesterday, we bought our milk supply.  It makes me so happy because we have so much milk.  I don't have to ration it out.  The granola I've been having all this week hasn't used as much milk as if I had just cereal.

Our afternoon was similar to the morning.  More cross stitching and Tyler was on the computer.  There was a football game on so that was on in the background.  Tyler made some tasty burgers for supper and they were so good.  The best burger he has ever made and there isn't anything that could have made them better.  They were just so good.

And now we are sitting and watching some hockey.  The Oilers play tonight and we are about to go for a quick walk before the game starts.  Dinner was good but it's starting to give me a bit of heartburn.  I find walking helps ease that annoying pregnancy symptom.

Baby J has been moving all day long.  It's so much fun.  Every time I see a baby I just imagine what ours will look and act like.  I'm so excited to meet this person and play with it and be it's mom.  I wonder if it's a boy or a girl.  It's fun to imagine what life will be like once this little tyke enters our lives.

Weekend Cometh

Friday started as any other.  Tired and just ready for tomorrow morning, when I don't need to get up and not on call, so I don't need to worry about the phone ringing.  The sun actually rose today.  There weren't any clouds this morning, so I was actually able to see it come over the mountains.  It turned the sky pink and it was pretty cool.  Something we don't get to see everyday.  On the walk over to work I noticed that there was a pretty solid layer of ice on the car.  Winter is here.  I was told that its going to be a cold winter out here.  There is also flurries already in the forecast for next week.

The day was pretty slow.  Our new analyzer was already giving us some problems, so we had to call the service guys so they can come and fix it.  That was as exciting as my day got.  It was alot of little things that needed to be done.  It seemed to drag by today, compared to the rest of the week.

I came home and Sonja and I both forgot to take some meat out of the freezer for supper.  So since it was too late to take meat out then, we decided to go to the store and buy some food we could just throw in the oven and cook.  We settled on poutine and chicken burgers.  Nice and simple and delicious, just the way a Friday night meal should be.  After supper we saw a train barge float on by.  It's just a barge carrying a train instead of the usual cargo.  It was pretty cool.  Only the second one that we have seen go past here.  Also I tormented the cat and made her hiss at me.  Usually she just gives up when I play rough with her but today I laid her on her side and she was immediately upset with me.  She let out a big long meow and then things just got worse from there.  I started just even petting her and thats when she hissed at me.  I don't even remember the last time a cat hissed at me.

I called home and talk to mom and dad for a half hour.  They are leaving for 2 weeks in Hawaii tomorrow, so I thought I should say my good byes.  I hung up the phone and came back to the living room with Sonja.  We heard meowing outside again.  We hadn't seen the baby kitten for a long time and heard it meowing out there.  I took the flashlight out there and looked for it.  It was left on the beach for some reason.  I think it probably fell.  I climbed down there and tried to catch it to bring it back to where its mom has been hanging out, our deck.  It was easier to catch than I thought it would be.  I brought it back up to the deck and we fed it.

We are now watching Crazy, Stupid, Love and relaxing for the rest of the night.

Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011

It's pretty hard to believe that it's already November.  I'm not sure how this time is just flying by but in no time at all, we will be back for Christmas and then we will be having a baby.  Maybe that's why I can't believe how fast it's going - because in just a few more weeks, we will be a family of 3.  I always thought that when I was pregnant, time would go so slow because I would just want to meet this little person but it's just going so much faster then I ever thought it would.  I'm almost in the 3rd trimester and that blows my mind.  That means that there is only about 12 weeks left and putting it in terms of weeks like that, I can't believe there is only 12 more weeks to go.  What an adventure it's been!!  I haven't noticed Baby J move a lot today only because I've been moving quite a bit.

I accidentally woke Tyler up at 1 am this morning with another one of my crazy middle of the night outbursts.  I was dreaming there was a crab crawling across my leg while I was laying in bed.  I guess I woke Tyler up by saying, "Make sure the boat doesn't crush my legs."  So, when Tyler questioned what I was talking about, that kind of brought me out of the sleep only a little bit to get upset at him because I believed I said, "There is a crab crawling across my leg."  He was talking about a boat when I could see a crab on my leg and he wasn't doing anything about it.

Tyler got out of bed this morning and I curled up and fell back asleep, or at least I tried to.  Upstairs neighbor's alarm started vibrating and kept me awake and made me mad.  There is nothing worse then having a neighbor who is so loud and annoying even at 7 am in the morning.  Yesterday I took a 3 hour nap after being awake for only 2 hours and I didn't want to spend my morning like that today so I got out of bed at around 9:30 this morning.  I could have gone back to sleep but I managed to keep myself busy this morning.

I did the dishes, and played some DDR.  The DDR I do these days is not what I was doing before.  Now a days, it's very simple and easy so I don't jostle Baby J too much.  I take off the jump feature and the half beats so it's just stepping on a mat.  It's fun though because it gets me off the couch and makes me move.

Tyler came and left for lunch and I was by myself once again.  It was a beautiful day so I spent lots of time on the deck.  It was also chilly so when I wanted to, I could just hop right back inside to warm up.

I was laying on the couch cross stitching and watching Baby J go crazy.  I was finally relaxing so Baby took the opportunity to bounce around my belly.  I know I always say this, but it was so amazing.  And only a few weeks to go.  I can't believe it.  I did end up finishing my cross stitch project and found another easy one to do.  I don't have all the materials for my next big project and I don't think I'll be able to even start it before Christmas.  I can't seem to find the right material so it might never happen.  But this next one is being made for Baby J.  It's a pretty cute one too.

I started on dinner and Tyler came home.  It was an easy meal to make and we were eating in no time.  I always enjoy this dish but I know Tyler isn't a huge fan of it so I have a lot of leftovers to eat.  After dinner, we went for a walk around town.  It was really nice to go for a walk even though it was pretty chilly out.  When we got home, Kitten had given us a little treat that needed to be cleaned up.  She threw up all over her cone and harness.  We had to take it off and wash her and the harness.  I think she did it on purpose because she is now coneless and sleeping on the couch.  She is always so cute when she doesn't have to wear the cone.  I can't wait to get her some new food so she can always be like this.

We are now relaxing for the evening.  It might be an early evening for us because we are both tired again.  I'm not sure why we are both always so tired... actually, I'm growing a human, I don't know why Tyler is so tired.  Maybe it's all the work and studying that he does.

It's been a good day and I can't believe the weekend is almost here.
